The memory of the first contact with the Martinez family is still alive after two years. A few Wunderlandians visited New York to see a model railway exhibition. There was only one area that really surprised us: a 100 square meter model of South America with real water, Panama and Ipanema. As we were standing there talking about the model, Jorge suddenly showed up completely excited. He asked Freddy if he was Gerrit, didn’t wait for the answer and kept talking. He couldn’t believe his luck, he grew up with a VHS from us, has seen every episode of Gerrit’s diary. And then he said an unforgettable sentence: For him it was just as if he was meeting the Beatles. As a model railroader in New York being perceived as a rock star, we felt awkward and flattered at the same time. Psychologically perfectly arranged. So we had no choice but to take him to our hearts immediately.<\/p>\n

One by one we got to know the whole family. Father Martinez, an impressive character with a gentle appearance and a rare model building madness and the four children with very different abilities. We thought about the family during the whole flight back to Hamburg and quite soon, far before Greenland, it was clear to us that we wanted to go on a common adventure.<\/p>\n
